Carpinteria
Carpinteria is the cutest little coastal town just a few miles North on the 101 from Ventura. I love visiting Carpinteria because it is such a short drive and it has such a charming, distinct feel that I instantly feel like I am on vacation.
Beaches-The Beach in Carpinteria is long and pristine. Carpinteria State Beach melds into Carpinteria City Beach creating a long coastline of mellow waters great for surfers and families looking to play in the surf alike! There are many lifeguard stands that are often staffed.
Hiking- A favorite activity of mine to do with my kiddos is to take hike to the Carpinteria Seal Sanctuary. This is a flat trail that winds through the fields of the Carpinteria Nature Preserve. Once you cross the railroad tracks and begin walking along the cliff next to the ocean you soon come across an overlook spot for the seal sanctuary. From there you have an aerial view of the seals playing on the beach below. The trailhead and parking are located at the intersection of Carpinteria Ave and Bailard Ave.
City Stroll- A stroll through Carpinteria’s cute and historical downtown is sure to please the whole group. There are plenty of shops, restaurants, breweries and treat shops- including one of my all time favorite ice cream shops- Rori’s ice cream. The downtown is picturesque and scenic. Visiting just for a cup of coffee or a bite to eat at one of Carpinteria’s cafes feels like a vacation of its own!
Parks- There are several cute parks in and around Carpinteria. My favorite is Tomol Interpretive play area which is sandwiched between downtown and the beach. See more info on the parks page here.
Dining- Carpinteria’s restaurant options are abundant. Here are some of my personal favorites:
The Spot for a quick burger
Padaro Beach Grill- A really neat casual dining restaurant with plentiful outdoor space to spread out and let the kids run around. They have a big sand pit for littles to run around in and play. FYI this spot gets very popular and parking is limited. There is also only one bathroom.
